Thursday, Jan 24, 7PM, David Hirata, The Jap Box. Inspired by the story of magician Namigoro Sumidagawa, who in 1866 became the first Japanese citizen to be issued a passport to visit the West, where one of his prize illusions was appropriated by American magicians in yellowface, and renamed, The Jap Box. The Jap Box is a unique look at Asian American history from the point of view of Japanese-American magician David Hirata. Part theatrical story, part magic show, The Jap Box explores illusions of race and identity through the magic of two cultures.
Thursday, Jan 24, 9PM, Peter Samelson, Possibly Impossible. Christened the soft-spoken conceptualist of sorcery by the New York Times, Peter Samelson has distinguished himself not only as a magician, but as an artist, insisting that he doesnt do magic: he only helps people to see the magic already in their minds. Hes an illusionist, entertainer, and philosopher, blending simplicity and sophistication, provoking thought and wonder. This will be a fantastic evening for all who are children-at-heart.
Friday, Jan 25, 8PM, Jade, The Magic of Jade. A Fog City Magic Fest fan favorite, Jade took the male-dominated world of magic by storm in 1990, when she won first place in the International Brotherhood of Magicians' World Magic Competition. More importantly, a panel of celebrity judges honored her with the organization's coveted Gold Medal of Magic, a prize awarded only a handful of times in the competition's history. Of Chinese heritage and raised on the island of Sumatra, Jade's fluency in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English has allowed her to exchange illusionary techniques with other master magicians throughout the globe, expanding her enchanting repertoire!

Her hobbies include burping, eating nachos, and yelling at people who call her Cinderella.
