Earth Day Shoreline Cleanup

  • Adventure Playground 160 University Avenue Berkeley, CA, 94710 United States (map)

Join us in celebrating the earth and spend some time cleaning the litter off our shorelines.

Plastic pollution is a huge problem on our shorelines. Plastic does not biodegrade, instead it breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces which end up being mistaken as food by wildlife. This event is part of an ongoing effort to keep the Berkeley Waterfront shorelines litter free and attractive for all wildlife and visitors.

Ages: All Ages (Youth under the age of 15 must be with an adult at all times)

Drop-In registration is welcome; pre-registration is preferred

Participants under the age of 18 must have a waiver signed by their parent or guardian. Parents can complete a waiver at the event or during pre-registration. Youth cannot stay without an adult unless they are 15 years or older.

Meet at Shorebird Park Nature Center at 9:00 am. Participants will receive a service-learning presentation and safety talk on the impact of trash and plastics in our oceans and waterways, and how we can help.

Supplies will be provided along with a map of cleaning locations. Please plan to wear closed-toe shoes and dress appropriately for the work and weather conditions of the day. Clean for as long as you want and bring the trash back to the Nature Center before you leave. Trash will be weighed and sorted.
