Time Traveling Kids
Traveling through time could happen within our children's lifetimes, but, until that becomes a reality, there are other great ways to explore where we came from and where we are going. This May bring history to life by traveling with your kids through time to learn the lessons of the past and prospects of the future.
TRAVEL TO THE PAST
MAY 3 Jerusalem Marketplace, 29 A.D., 11:45am-1:30pm, Go back in time and experience middle-eastern food, games and crafts, such as woodworking, making beaded jewelry and working with clay. This is a great free event for the whole family! Costumes provided. Mount Tamalpais United Methodist Church, 410 Sycamore Ave, Mill Valley.
MAY 6 Presidio Shuttle Tour, free guided travel through time, hear stories spanning the centuries, wild open spaces, and hidden nooks, with an emphasis on projects that are shaping the Presidio today. Visit the Main Post, Crissy Field, Fort Winfield Scott, the western coastal bluffs, and more.
MAY 9 Living History Day, spend a day on a 1840’s rancho. Meet a Boston trader, a lace maker, learn historic weaving techniques, listen to hurley gurdie music, create historic baskets, candles and rope making, learn historic cooking methods, and more. Petaluma Adobe State Historic Park.
MAY 17 Maifest (pronounced "my–fest"), 12-6pm, the traditional celebration of the arrival of spring. In Germany and Austria, the Maibaum (Maypole) is decorated to honor a town or village's local history, produce, and crafts, and is the focus of the traditional Maypole Dance, Tourist Club, Mill Valley.
MAY 17 Annual Heritage Day, 10am-4pm, features activities tied to the park’s unique cultural history and idyllic location on the flanks of Mount Burdell. Inhabited continuously for 8,000 years, Olompali has been a Coast Miwok Indian village, a Victorian estate and a hippie commune. Visitors can take guided walks to learn about Olompali’s birds, plants and archaeology, or hear experts discuss the park’s historic structures, including the Camilo Ynitia Adobe, the Burdell Mansion and the Burdell Victorian Garden, Olompali State Historic Park, (707) 762-9715.

MAY 16 & 17 Makers Fair, a family-friendly festival of invention, creativity, resourcefulness, and a celebration of future innovators, San Mateo County Event Center.
MAY 23 What Wonderful Worlds, Exploring Our Solar System, 8:30pm, Our knowledge about our own Solar System has increased by leaps and bounds over the past few decades due to a combination of spacecraft missions and technical advancements on ground based telescopes.
